Why I went vegetarian 24 years ago …and just started eating meat again.

IMG_1634

It was 1990, and at 25 my life seemed to be at a dead end.  I knew I needed something intense to distract me from my aching sadness. I had just experienced the worst heartache I thought possible, and was going through a lot of changes, namely being divorced.  Instead of going down the slippery slope to darkness, I decided I wanted to distract myself with something full of life and light – something that would make me stronger and better as an individual, something that no one could ever take away from me.

And that was my health. I wasn’t raised with a healthy food focus and my eating habits worsened through college.  I had no desire to try healthier food options or venture into any of the culinary variety or tastes that existed in non-processed foods. So being an all-or-nothing kind of girl, I decided to become vegetarian to force myself to learn about healthy food and ways to cook veggies that I didn’t even know existed. .  I decided to use the intense life change of a vegetarian diet as a healthy distraction to take […]

Employ the power of positive quitting

Create the space for greatness by knowing when to quit? YES!

“Employ the power of positive quitting. Most of us view quitting as something negative, but it’s not. ‘Winners never quit,’ we’re told, when, in reality, winners quit all the time: choosing to stop doing things that aren’t creating the results they desire. When you quit all the things that aren’t working for you, when you quit tolerating all the negative things that hold you back, you’ll create a positive charge in your life as well as create the space in your life for more positive experiences.” – Jim Allen
